Grease material properties from first principles thermodynamics

چکیده

Thermodynamics has historically been used to derive characteristic material properties. In this study, fundamental thermodynamics is applied grease. First-principle formulations of existing properties—heat capacity and storage modulus—and new properties—thermal strain stress coefficients, chemical resistance thermo-chemical decay coefficient—are derived, some which are experimentally determined. A group Maxwell relations introduced by replacing the classical compression work PdV $$ with grease shearing Vτdγ V\tau d\gamma . The physical interpretations implications these properties on behaviour performance presented. Experimental measurements derived performed in accordance theoretical formulations. Six different types studied. Obtained results shown conform anticipated, observed established behaviours. proposed can be degradation analyses, as well selection for lubrication applications.

Thermodynamics From First Principles: Prediction Of Phase Diagrams And Materials Properties Using Density Functional Theory

First principles calculations have become one of the main computational methods in condensed matter physics and physical chemistry due to their high degree of accuracy without the usage of any fitting parameters. Interest has been growing in the engineering disciplines to exploit these properties to predict new materials with desired material properties, greatly accelerating the prototyping of ...

First - principles , atomistic thermodynamics for oxidation catalysis

Present knowledge of the function of materials is largely based on studies (experimental and theoretical) that are performed at low temperatures and ultra-low pressures. However, the majority of everyday applications, like e.g. catalysis, operate at atmospheric pressures and temperatures at or higher than 300 K. Here we employ ab initio, atomistic thermodynamics to construct a phase diagram of ...

Thermodynamics of glasses: a first principles computation

We propose a first principles computation of the thermodynamics of simple fragile glasses starting from the two-body interatomic potential. A replica formulation translates this problem into that of a gas of interacting molecules, each molecule being build of m atoms, and having a gyration radius (related to the cage size) which vanishes at zero temperature. We use a small cage expansion, valid...

Electronic properties of oligoacenes from first principles

We present the electronic band structures and dielectric tensors for a series of crystalline linear oligoacenes—i.e., naphthalene, anthracene, tetracene, and pentacene—calculated within the density functional framework. The band dispersions, the effective charge carrier masses, and the optical response are discussed as a function of the oligomer length compared to previously reported calculatio...
